“Love” CARDS Behind the Scenes
Flexibility is paramount when initializing a design–jumping to a solution too early eliminates others, possibly more pleasing:). A majority of these “Love” cards started out their lives as the spray catch-all paper for other cards/artwork. The imperfections, the wobbles and squiggles, and the marker ‘warts’ are all left on, as a reminder, for all to see the possibilities rather than the limitations. That is my life mantra: Make it Work! And to that I would add, using what you have instead of going to the store, Here are a few examples of future card backgrounds:
The earlier “Love” post is still available for viewing but this is a more in-depth examination of the behind-the-scenes activity and references specific cards. Much of the time I am sitting across from the table desk working on a new/old piece or just playing around, experimenting with some medium to see what will happen. This process is not a planned activity (unless I have been given a specific job by the Card Boss) but serendipitous sleuthing to discover properties here unbeknownst. This is where the magic happens, disasters occur, and all that is in between.
No. 1. The swirly-doos was a new stamp purchased at Tuesday Morning for a mere pittance! Then it was stamped hither and yon upon the paper on my desk. Colored pencil play completed the image and the background is a gone awry artwork repurposed for this card. M (AKA Card Boss) performed her magic making everything look purposefully beautiful!
No. 2. Tabletop graffiti! Please go check out the envelope which is a work of art all by itself.
No. 3. An Izzy-involved design…torn out from the edge of the paper after she was through.
No. 4. More swirly-doos, Izzy coloring with the new watercolor crayons( notice the rubbing effect around the heart—that would be the yoga mat on the desk), a heart which required glitter, and over to CB to whip it all together.
No. 5. Hearts cut and enhanced from some of the same paper used on No. 4.
No. 6. MIA..toddler throwing lids at the wall while CB was doing this lovely layout. That sounds horrible! What she was doing was playing a game of hit the ones on the ground with a bag of others—kind of a variation of a bean bag toss.
No. 7. Just a simple little watercolor, a cutout spiral from a leftover piece, and a sweet little heart adorned with glitter. This one is all Mariah pulling it together with that talent she has…simple but so expressive!
No. 8. I mixed the colors used for the stencils. CB did the rest. Lots of love here:)
No. 9. Cut out hearts from around the edge of No. 4. A few scribbles, stamps some stacked up “Love”!
No. 10. Looks like it’s a bit shy hiding out under No. 4. Check it out on PMartiststudio for a full-length version. Lots going on with stamping, embossing, glitter, cheetah washi tape, and a swell, elegant, ombre “Love”.
No. 11. All on CB except for the small green heart. It is worth the time to take a gander and check out the envelope and the back of the card on the website.
No.12. This was thrown across the desk from M to P with a, “do something to this!”, so after more ink, lifting ink, embossing. Look what a stunner she turned out to be!
No.13. Another Izzy involved a bit of whimsy that grew up to be a sweet little card.
No.14. Pretty much M here…torn strips and hearts are my only contribution. Hot little number don’t you think?!
No. 15. Ah, wish you were here to gaze upon this beauty! The texture of the paper towel, the lovely bleed of indigo blue into willow green is beyond sumptuous. The paper towel was used to catch the runoff from small tokens I was making for my journal and I had put it to dry by the window. Days later the sun hit it and it was “Love” at second sight!
