THE PROCESS:
P OF PM
Hellebore “Thank You”. Complementary colors create a sense of anticipation and this card was a delight to design from its inception. What was difficult was finding an inside sentiment that had something to do with the thread, string that one would be thankful for! I went in pursuit of such a sentiment fully expecting to find a totally compatible one by some rather well-known individual. After pages, I do mean pages of reading funny, cute, ironic, long, short quotes, it was apparent that what was needed for this card was not out there. A collaborative effort produced: Thank you…for being the thread that stitches me back together when the seams start to fray! It is always a gratifying endeavor to work with another person who brainstorms on the same creative cloud.
M OF PM
The “Thank You Hellebore Thread” card sort of put itself together because the paper provided the inspiration as well as the embellishments; the font on “Thank You” suggested a continuation with the string/thread and that led to the inside quote. The circle represents friendship with the embossing on it further reinforcing the theme using a fabric-like texture. The torn, gilded edges a reminder:
“Make new friends,
But keep the old.
One is silver,
The other is gold.
A circle is round,
It has no end.
That’s how long,
I will be your friend…”
(An excerpt from a song in turn from a poem written by Joseph Parry (1841-1903) and sung by the Girl Scouts).
What was true then still holds true as symbolized in this card.
The addition of the leaf on the inside was an afterthought and came about during preparation for the video. Changing, and slightly altering some of the original elements on the card made the leaf a desirable add-on; the stamp ( P made the stamp) pad color was off slightly so Prisma colored pencils were used to make it more compatible with the adjacent flower and background. Embossing on the flowers and the leaf is aesthetically motivated, not crucial but by adding that bit of detail the overall presentation is enriched and texturally more interesting.
Marie (@Thoughtful Studio), because of your beautiful paper, this card exists. Thank you for this. Your friendship and belief in P.M. artist Studio give us joy, inspiration, and anticipation for the future.
