Seaside Inspired Starfish and Clam CARD

Seaside Inspired Starfish and Clam CARD

Take a trip to the sea with our Starfish Clam Shell Card featuring the Tess-A-Penpal Stars patterned paper. A delightful paper that inspired our journey of starfish and clamshells to say Thank You for an act of kindness that has made you “Happy as a Clam”. Enjoy!

THE SUPPLY LIST:
PRINTABLES
  • 2 Sheets of Cardstock – In the video, we used 9×12 Strathmore Bristol Smooth Surface Heavy Weight Drawing Board 100lb (not a bright white paper almost cream). We love using this paper, it is featured in many of our cards and is almost solely what we use when cutting sentiments on the Cricut.
  • 1 Sheet of Text Weight – For this project, we used 8½x11 Strathmore Natural White Blend Wove 801b (again a cream color, not bright white).
NOTE: When using already printed 8”x8” patterned sheets you will need 2 TESSA-PEN-PAL stars and 1 cardstock for the main part of the card.

OTHER MATERIALS
  • Foam Cushion – Can be purchased or found in the packaging of shipped items. Alternatives could be cling wrap or even glitter on scrap paper.
  • Color Sprays and/or Paints – Various Blues and Turquoise to Teal colors. We used Mister Huey’s in Seafoam, Navy and Shine along with Shimmer Sprays from Ranger Dylusions Brand in London Blue, Vibrant Turquoise and Blue Calypso.
  • Glue – Art Glitter is our go-to glue.
  • Double-Sided Tape – in Various Widths. Both 2” and ¼” were used on this card.
  • Double-Sided Foam – Roll, Circles and/or Squares. Used small circles and squares on this card.
  • Cut Sentiment “Thank You” – For stacking, we used 3 cut “Thank You” from the Cricut. The sentiment can come from die-cuts or simply from printed pieces.

THE PROCESS:
“P” OF PM
One of the lovely things about working closely with someone else is that when one of you is bereft of ideas, the other steps in and comes up with a plan. That is what happened with Starfish; I just didn’t see what I could contribute to the project as all the parts seemed to be there. Mariah assembled the card, then decided it needed something so I was employed to make a starfish stamp and a clamshell. That was the deal changer! It is often the case that small detail makes an otherwise dull project into one that becomes a star. AND (no groaning) everyone is happy as a clam!

“M” OF PM
With my printing background, I have an appreciation of paper. As it is with so many things in life, not all paper is created equally, some shine, some are utilitarian, some are middle of the road-ers that do all the heavy lifting without the accolades until…they are marked upon. Everything changes and a personality emerges from that inked image whispering to the willing listener telling them a tale of what is to be if they are true followers. I was true to the story and thus Starfish surfed up onto the beach thankful to be with his clamshell friends.
