MINI-ACCORDION Books Cloudy Seaside A Four Set

Cloudy Seaside Mini-Books – concertina accordion box set (four in all) are a walk through art history, a bit of literary, and even a touch of textile. Each connected journal is done so with a thread of Japanese culture, a brush stroke of French impressionism, and a swirl of Dutch post-impressionism. Wrapped in their golden threads, divided but placed together as they once were with a single piece of paper, each of the four has its own personality.

Vol 1 (the first of the blue set), a van Gogh quote tag tucked into a pocket, adorned with pearls and gold thread, the neighboring panel also accordions out and has details on the artist and painting on the back. Then onto a hanging quote (Sir Richard Francis Burton) tag and a flip-up painting panel (painting by W. Joy). Under the flip the definition of cloudy and seaside. Throughout we used our Cloudy Seaside set of papers in which we played with the scale of the patterns on each panel.

Vol 2 (the second of the blue set), A flip-down panel with a painting by Tuke and a poem by Hawthorne revealing two belly-banded tucks (a map and a quote) both backed by our papers. Next, a four-panel fold ending in a roll fold to show the middle of the van Gogh painting with details on the backside and bookended by our papers. On the neighboring panel, a full piece of metal yogurt top is embossed in a swirl pattern and inked with various blue alcohol inks. Lastly, a pocket from the kit held two folded sea-life posters each backed with our paper.

Vol 3 (the first of the gold set). The first panel is actually a pocket with a hand-torn belly band gilded on one side and distressed on the other. Tucked behind the band are two pieces: a folded poster of shells and a vintage postcard with a sea-themed front. In the golden pocket (again from the kit) another vintage postcard. Moving to the next panel a flip-up fold with a printed screen from the mid-to-late 16th century and a Matsuo Bashō bio along with a few poems on the inside. The Great Wave by Katsushika Hokusai (info on the back panels) is next and it makes a great impression with a Z Fold out and magnet attachment accented by a flower and tassel. The following panel is quite special a belly band holds a Kimono tag-style insert that contains a quote and a fold-out info card.

Vol 4 (the second of the two gold sets). Includes a flip-down panel with two #MonetPaintings and a bio on the inside. The next panel features a simple petal-folded envelope containing a circular-folded insert featuring a quick history of Kiryû Benten zu. A tri-fold with thirty-five of the thirty-six views of Mount Fuji, The Big Wave is on Vol 2 Golden set. Inside tucked is a quote by #RobertWService about sand and mountains, backside has been a 3D mod podge making the gold shimmer even more. Moving right one more panel an upside-down pocket that holds a large golden tasseled tag with a quote from #LailahGiftyAkita and embellished with gold and silver watercolor. A small tag with embossed aluminum (from the yogurt top) is tucked into a folded pocket gilded in gold. Behind the fold another tuck, a 3D Butterfly backed with material and guided in gold flowers.
