Things That Go Bump in The Night – An Artist Book

Things That Go Bump in The Night – An Artist Book

The initial impetus for the book was Judy P’s skull artwork. It was a guiding force for most of the pages – Izzy and her mad scientist page are an exception – but even then there is a thread of continuity in fears and foibles or sometimes kindred spirits. That which we are fearful of or fearful of the ride along in the same car and depending on which one – fear for or fear of – is driving determines choices, behaviors, and reactions. Most fears are the result of ignorance – you fear what you don’t understand placing these fears in a visual format perhaps it will allay some of those fears at the very least start an awareness that leads to further inquiry.

The actual visual representations were a process of evolution. One page, image, or idea prompted another, and so on and so forth. It was explorational, new processes, and products were employed to achieve specific results – glass paste being the most interesting novel and old familiar ones used to unify and complete a spread. Those projects beginning with a loosely defined parameter usually turn out to be the most satisfying creatively. Trusting concepts that allow for deviations, in the end, result in something unimaginable at the beginning.
