Light and Dark | A BIG Accordion Artist Book

Light and Dark | A BIG Accordion Artist Book

Why is it that when it comes to finishing a big project, the squirreling urge activates, and focus stalls out sputtering to a dead stop? It is so deeply embedded in my modus operandi that digging it out would be counterproductive to my productivity. Think on that a spell…

Now, that this artist book is finished (not so sure it is:)? Mucho kudos, wreaths of victory are to be placed at the dainty feet of—drum roll—none other than my partner extraordinaire Mariah! Many gentle reminders, some not-so-gentle reminders, and various other motivational devices later, VIOLA! It is born! A miracle birth as this is the first of its kind to emerge from the batch of ‘box-mothers’ who are reluctant to give it up.

It is difficult to accurately assign how much of the journal was done by whom but to say it would not have happened without M is a true statement. My part in our partnership is to produce various and assorted ‘stuff’ that will be utilized in the formation of…whatever. This role fits my natural working style (which is ADD, excessively messy WIP, stuff it in a box for later kind of thing) admirably. There are papers in the ‘box-mothers’ that date back to, let’s just say some are older than my partner M and leave it at that. Knowing that they exist is both blessing and a curse; they are somewhere ie they exist, but WHICH box-mother is holding them? That brings on the curses! The box mothers are sometimes most reluctant to proffer up their young and will not be coerced so it becomes necessary to create anew. So that is a quick overview of life here at PM Artist Studio.

As for the specifics on this particular journal, M made the accordion part, and the black, background pages on the “Bright” side and was always available for consultation (also encouragements mentioned earlier:). The “Dark” side comes from box mothers and recent experiments as is the case with both covers. The rest is explained visually through the photographs and the video below!

Questions? Observations. Comments (don’t forget to sign your name especially if they are of the un-constructive criticism sort).

Until next time, sally forth and make something you creative creatures!
PS. If those creations you make aren’t to your liking, make a ‘mother-box’:):):):)
