Old Is New with Ceri Griffiths
Kylie sent Ceri a beautiful fabric cover in teal hues, a coordinating, textured piece of stiff cardboard, and a large mixed media paper, decorated again in coordinating tones. You can watch her make the items she sent in a YouTube video.
Ceri took these and used them to create a beautiful journal. He brought out some of his goodies, embellishing each page with unique art from a gel press and mark-making.
Featured as part of the mixed media art, Ceri and Kylie used a number of PM Artist Studio stencils and stamps:
- Little Leaves Stencil (by Ceri Griffiths)
- Line Dot Foam Stamp (by Ceri Griffiths)
- Dragonfly Stencil
- Connected Nested Circles
- Geo Poly Stencil
- Boundless Border Designs Vol 1 Stencils (by Ceri Griffiths)
There is a brief 6-minute overview of the gorgeously rich finished journal and a second process video that shows how he made it.
The Finished Journal
Behind the Scenes: The Journal’s Creation
Ceri begins by adding substance to the fabric cover with Kraft-tex. I always love to see this soft and strong fabric-like material used. You’ll see it makes quite the difference in supporting the journal.
MIXED MEDIA TIP: Wrap your glue brush (Don’t use any good painting brush for it!) with a damp microfiber cloth or inside a plastic bag so the brush remains usable between the times you will be using it on a project. There’s no faster way to ruin a brush than by letting glue dry on it.
Enjoy Ceri’s build for the journal. He shows us nearly every step and decision along the way to this wonderful keepsake in the video linked below:
