Create Texture in Your Artwork

Create Texture in Your Artwork

OUR FOCUS: ACTUAL vs VISUAL and Texture Techniques

We talk about color and texture all the time, these are our ultimate goals when creating many of our pieces. During the last couple of livestreams we focused on actual vs visual texture in your art. Visual (what the eye perceives as texture) and Actual using things like texture paste are covered utilizing various techniques to create both. Color comes in the form of gel printing, sprays, and many other media.

When watching our videos on the topic of texture there will be examples of tactile and visual. What constitutes a texture, a visual texture differentiates it from a pattern and become (through manipulation on the gel plate) an interesting texture with lights and darks defining edges. This then speaks the language of surface and “feel”.

Layering Stencils
At some point, it will be necessary to pull a print without the stencil just to clear the plate. Use a heavy body consistency to do this, opaque paints work well for this as we will be comparing and showing in the next blog and set of videos. Always approach from a problem-solving point of view and with contrast always in mind.
